Wu named Regeneron Scholar

Evan Wu ’24 is one of 300 scholars named in the 83rd Regeneron Science Talent Search, a prestigious national science and mathematics competition for high school seniors. He is the only scholar from Tennessee.
Wu’s research paper – Conserved Spatiotemporal Expression Landscape of Dominant tRNA Genes in Human and Mouse – was published in the peer-reviewed journal Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications. He began the research after his freshman Biology course and sought advice during the two-year project from his teacher, Instructor in Science Laura Landry. She is named alongside Wu on the paper.
 
“I congratulate Evan on this impressive accomplishment, and I am grateful to Ms. Landry for her advice and encouragement along the way,” Headmaster Pete Sanders said. “Not only did he conduct meticulous research and write a paper suitable for publication, but he also reported findings not previously published.”

Wu will receive a $2,000 award, and MUS will receive $2,000 to be used for STEM-related activities. A total of 2,162 students from around the country entered the competition this year.

The announcement of 40 finalists will take place on January 24 at 11 a.m. CST. Finalists will each receive $25,000 and will participate in a weeklong competition in March.
