Scholastic Art Awards

Seven Owls earned Mid-South Scholastic Art Awards for their work in the Drawing and Illustration, Mixed Media, Painting, and Photography divisions.
Oscar Liu ’25 collected eight awards across two categories. His pieces “Captured Carp,” “First Halloween,” and “New York Pitstop” won Gold Keys in the Drawing and Illustration section while “The Carousel” collected a Silver Key in the same category.

Liu also won a Gold Key in the Painting category for his work “Consumerism.” His paintings “Distraction” and “Lost in Space” garnered Silver Keys while “iPad Kid” received an Honorable Mention.

Joseph Zhao ’28 won three Gold Keys in Drawing and Illustration for his self-portrait, plus "Mirror on Paper" and "Polar Bear's Cave." The latter two works were submitted through a private studio. 

Wills Frazer ’25 placed across three categories in this year’s contest. He won a Silver Key in the Mixed Media category for “Chess Gazing” and received an Honorable Mention in Painting for “Bananagram Parents” and in Drawing and Illustration for “Scrabble Brained.” 

Ewan Beck ’29 won a Silver Key in Drawing and Illustration for his piece "Speckled Dreams." 

Aidan Lightman ’25 and Fitz Wilson ’29 collected Honorable Mentions in the Drawing and Illustration category for their pieces “Imitation” and “Hispanic Heritage Art,” respectively. Evan Wu ’24 garnered an Honorable Mention for his photo “Growing Old Together.”

Winners are eligible for scholarships, cash prizes, and a place in an exhibition at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Recipients of a Gold Key will also have their work sent to New York City for national judging.
