Owls Place Third at MathCounts

The Owls math squad finished third out of 12 teams in this year’s MathCounts regional team competition. Gus Williams ’28 qualified for the state tournament with his individual score while Joseph Zhao ’28 placed first in the head-to-head competition of the Math Countdown Round.
The team competition included eighth graders Mustafa Mirza, Mustafa Rehan, Williams, and Zhao, who also competed as individuals.

Seventh graders Raahim Afzal, Kushal Das, Hanson Liu, Ben Park, Mohid Salman, and James Schwarz competed in the individual tests alongside eighth graders James Hanlon and Benjamin Sims.

Out of 103 students in individual testing, Williams finished sixth, Zhao ranked ninth, and Rehan placed 28th. Williams will travel to Nashville March 23 for the state competition.

Math Department Co-chair Darin Clifft thanked Upper School Math Team Leader Albert Ding ’26 for providing extra competition for the Lower School team.
