Chubb Named Football Head Coach

MUS Headmaster Peter D. Sanders announces the appointment of 18-year MUS defensive coordinator Mark Chubb as the school’s varsity football head coach after an extensive search. He will assume the role immediately.
“In a deep pool of highly qualified candidates, Mark Chubb’s background and experience stood out in the search process. I am grateful to the search committee, comprising MUS football alumni and knowledgeable parents, in providing informed advice,” Sanders said.

Chubb expressed gratitude at his selection. “I am truly blessed to be the fourth head football coach at MUS and humbled to follow in the footsteps of Jake Rudolph and Bobby Alston,” he said. “I am looking forward to continuing to work with our extraordinary coaching staff and students to bring honor to the Red and Blue.”

Joining the faculty in 2006 after coaching at Rhodes College, he has served MUS as defensive coordinator and linebacker/specialist coach, assistant athletic director, and physical education instructor. In his role as college compliance counselor, he has managed NCAA eligibility and procedures, advising students and parents on college athletic and scholarship opportunities.

“Mark established himself as a resourceful, imaginative, and highly organized assistant coach and defensive coordinator under Coach Bobby Alston,” Sanders said. “He will carry on many of the traditions that have made MUS football great while clearly making his imprint on the program. He is committed to being competitive on the field while holding true to the school’s mission of high academic standards and character formation.”

Chubb is the founder and director of Memphis Area Coaches Social, an annual event to connect area high school coaches with college football coaches from around the country.

Before coming to MUS, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English at Wittenberg University where he was a four-year football starter, three-year NCAC All-Conference Offensive Lineman, NCAA All-American, and graduate assistant coach. He served as offensive line assistant coach at University of Evansville for a year before joining the football coaching staff at Rhodes College in 1998 as special teams coordinator and defensive line coach. He also coached softball, baseball, and track at Rhodes.

Chubb takes the head coach position vacated by Bobby Alston upon his retirement in December after a 47-year career at the school.
