Memphis City Council Honors Rogers

Memphis City Councilman Chase Carlisle ’03 took the Hyde Chapel stage to present Coach Glenn Rogers, Jr. with a resolution in honor of his induction into the 2023 University of Memphis M Club Hall of Fame. 
Coach Rogers was a football standout at University of Memphis where he finished his career with 146 tackles and 12 interceptions and won the 1990 John Bramlett Defensive Player of the Year Award. He went on to play seven seasons in the Canadian Football League where he won a Gray Cup with the Edmonton Eskimos, before coming to MUS in 2000.

Carlisle cited Rogers’ “passion and purpose-driven actions always shining through and making a difference in the lives of students he’s worked with for over two decades. Beyond his professional accolades, he is a devoted husband and father.”

The councilman read the resolution, which concluded, “Now, therefore be it resolved that the Memphis City Council does join with family, friends, and the communities of Memphis University School, the University of Memphis, and the City of Memphis in congratulating Coach Glenn Rogers, Jr. on this well-deserved honor of being a member of the 2023 M Club Hall of Fame Class at the University of Memphis.”

Carlisle also announced that legislation has been put forth to rename a portion of Hollywood Boulevard near Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in honor of Rogers’ father, Glenn Rogers, Sr., the first African American football player at the University Memphis.

Rogers, Jr. thanked Carlisle, saying, “I accept this honor here in front of the people I love and admire. I’m blown away. It’s a great honor to work with so many great people every day. Like I tell people all the time, I’ve never had a bad day waking up and coming to work because I love coming here.“
