Sellers to Study Ancient Olympics

Classical and Modern Languages Chair Ryan Sellers has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to participate in a summer institute examining the ancient Olympic Games.
The two-week workshop, hosted at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, immerses K-12 teachers in the ancient contests and the local life going on around the games. In addition to scholarly research from original literary sources and material remains, participants will be exposed to analysis from contemporary scholars. They will also participate in Olympic events in the ancient style, carry out the work of artisans and craftspeople of the time, and experience the materiality of ancient life.
