Owls Recognized in YIG Competition

Thirty-four Owls traveled to Nashville to participate in the YMCA Youth-in-Government Tristar Conference held April 11-14 in the State Capitol, and 17 brought home awards or honors.
Ten participants earned Outstanding Delegate awards for their performance during the conference: Carson Alexander '27; Albert Ding ’26, Kevin McCullers ’26, Aadil Omer ’26, Henry Phan ’26, Ashwin Subramanian ’26, Luke Tjiong ’26, and Carter Wildrick ’26; Chrishton King ’25, Dennis White ’25.

Three teams won Outstanding Bill Awards:  Kellett Giles ’26 and Henry Thompson ’26; Hudson Mattern ’27, Will Brezina ’27, and Abdullah Khawaja ’27; and Elston Liles ’25 and James Tashie ’25.

Amrik Chakravarty ’25 won the election to serve as speaker pro-temp of the White House during next year’s session while Paxton Silver ’25 won the election to be the lieutenant governor of the Red Senate. 

Silver was also one of five students selected to attend the YMCA Youth Conference of National Affairs this summer. This is the highest honor given at the conference.
