Latin Club Holds “Insanity” Contest

Seven teams of Owls in Latin II, III, IV, and V competed in the Latin Club’s April Insanity Certamen Tournament, and the quartet of juniors Will Gramm, Parth Patel, Alan Zhou, and freshman Joshua Gramm came out on top.
Classical and Modern Languages Chair Ryan Sellers said the intramural competition, modeled after the popular NCAA Basketball March Madness Tournament, provided an opportunity for Latin students to continue competing following the Owls’ state win at the Tennessee Junior Classical League Convention in March.

“Certamen challenges students with questions covering many different aspects of the ancient world, and the rapid-fire, team-based, competitive structure of the game makes it a fun way to learn about the language and culture of the Romans,” he said.

In the two-week trivia game, the team of sophomores Joephen Chen, Wills Frazer, Rushil Komeravelli, and Kushal Patel came in second place while freshmen Trey McDonald, Henry Phan, Luke Tjiong, and Sohum Valaulikar took the third-place spot.
