Owls Named to MBJ’s Next Gen
The Memphis Business Journal named juniors Ari Thiyagarajaa and Ethan Zhao to their 2025 Next Gen list.
The Next Gen program recognizes and connects standout rising seniors from across the Mid-South with business leaders. The project “encourages active participation in community events, forging connections with local businesses and influential figures."
In the February 6 issue of the publication, Thiyagarajaa and Zhao answered questions about the employment landscape for younger people, including the following:
What do you feel is important for employers to know about your generation and what you are looking for in a career?Zhao responded: “Our generation values flexibility and purpose in a career. We also want employers who are open to new ideas, encourage creativity, and prioritize work-life balance and social responsibility. We are eager to contribute, but we want to feel like our work aligns with our values to help us build the skills we need for the future.”
What do Memphis business leaders need to do to make Memphis more attractive to recruit young professionals?Thiyagarajaa responded, “Highly incentivize joining their companies. Opportunities such as deferred compensation structures, 401(k) matching, and stock options are important. Leaders also need to prioritize providing benefits to employees that encourage them to maintain a healthy relationship with their job.”
