Robotics Competes in State Tournament
Two Owls robotics squads competed in the 2025 Tennessee VEX Robotics State Championship at Austin Peay State University where the middle school team, Team 99331S, was awarded the Judges’ Award for their dedication and perseverance.
Composed of eighth graders Aaron Chiang and Colton Henry and seventh graders Rishabh Bag and Charles Kennedy, Team 99331S had only 12 hours’ notice that they had qualified for the state tournament. They rallied and fought their way into the round of 16 before being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Their performance and prompt arrival earned them the Judges’ Award, which recognizes a team that stands out for its resilience, character, and contributions to the competition beyond match performance. Their commitment to competing on such short notice had a significant impact on the event, influencing alliance selections and demonstrating their dedication to the program.
The high school group, Team 99331M, comprised sophomores Advay Adapa, Joshua Dong, Ike Emmert, Chase Frazer, and Walker Shirley. They displayed strong technical skills and teamwork throughout the competition but did not advance to the elimination rounds.
“This season has been one of tremendous growth for both teams, not only in technical expertise but also in teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance,” Science Instructor and Robotics Advisor Garrett Smithson said. “Their hard work and dedication were evident at state, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next.”
