Bubones Lauded for Latin Translation

Owls achieved recognition in three Latin translation contests.
Vergilian Society Latin Translation Exam:
Summa Cum Laude: Michael Liu ’25 
Cum Laude: Joephen Chen ’25, Oscar Liu ’25, and Rushil Komeravelli ’25

“The fact that we're able to compete with schools such as Stuyvesant, New York, and Thomas Jefferson, Virginia, speaks to the quality of our Latin program,” Classical and Modern Languages Chair Ryan Sellers said.

Classical Association of the Middle West and South International Latin Translation Exam:
Book Award: Henry Phan ’26 
Certificate of Commendation: Nicholas Lee ’26

“This is a very difficult exam, and with the CAMWS region covering 32 states and three Canadian provinces, the level of competition is intense,” Sellers said.

University of Memphis Language Fair:
Latin One - Mohid Salman ’29, 1st place
Latin One - Wells Martin ’29, 2nd place
Latin Two - Bruce Stockburger ’28, 1st place
Latin Three - Liam Curran ’27, 2nd place
Latin Four - Nicholas Lee ’26, 1st place

“This year’s competition featured Latin stories about Aeneas, Pyrrhus of Epirus, Roman political training, and the fable of the tortoise and the hare. The students did a great job of translating some very complicated passages,” Sellers said.
